Mourning the End of NightMourning (the End of Night)Mourning the End of Night
When I tear myself from bed to silence my alarm
and my mind is full of pigeons
with their eyes plucked out— blind, futile thoughts
flapping madly, wildly each crashing into another, spinning, careening, falling…
when the pale light sifts through the window in ribbons splitting up the room into a Picasso painting
and the mountain of sheets and blob of mattress look so warm and soft
and my skin is so rough from the hardened residue of late-night caffeine

Live to DreamFarewell Villanelle: Live to DreamLive to Dream
Do you live to dream like me? Always waiting for subdued rest, Needing to be set free.
Can you hear across a sea My longing for that long-gone crest; Do you live to dream like me?
Do you grow the fruited tree With now a wavering zest, Needing to be set free?
Can you still see me? Do I have a face in the north-Northwest? Do you live to dream like me?
Sounds of madness twinkle in me; I explode with yearning in my chest, Needing to be set free

Your hair melts into my face Green eyes hide in slumber, now within safety. Through your black window Downtown dots paint an untamed sea.
Imbibing your sweet, gentle scent Swirling in your rich, subtle stupor. I watch hazily from your bed As the nightlife lights dance for us.
Alone in warm embrace That shields us from the earth. Seen in solitude only by The glittering flecks of gold and silver.
My satiated skin Savors your body. It’s mellow in your room But outside, the city’s turned on.

I was about to correct you when you said “la mar.”
I was going to say that “mar” is masculine— “el mar.”
But you looked at me, and my eyes tripped into yours and splashed
in the murky blues and grays and greens, the waves crashing on the shores of your irises
and I stopped and decided
your eyes knew better how feminine is the sea.
I saw your gallery and it's amazing! Your art looks so great!
I haven't been here in a while,
awesomely awesome.

Speaking of photography, you are very good at it, so why don't you put a few pieces of your stuff up here?

"Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could; some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; you shall begin it too serenely ... to be encumbered with your old nonsense"
